Gustavous Banowsky, Annie and Mollie Cutrer’s 3x great grandfather, was born in Berlin and came to Texas at six months old. He joined the Civil War at 15 years old, and then later joined the Texas Rangers, serving the Big Bend region, including facing Indian raids and driving cattle on the Chisolm trail. Gus instituted within his family the virtues of courage, independence, and education. The Banowsky family also was firmly rooted in the Church of Christ. They helped form churches in Brownfield, Wichita Falls, Wharton, Fort Worth.
