“Brahman Country” is a slogan we use in our marketing here at BRC. Why? Because we fully believe the Brahman breed is the best breed for a large portion of the world.
We always say that it’s our personal mission that every cattleman in North America should know and understand the role of Brahman in a purebred and commercial crossbreeding program.
And, Brahman cattle are made to work in different environments. Some places need a 100% full registered Brahman. Other places, maybe a halfblood would be the best cross. Some, a 1/4 blood is good, and some places (like the purple and pink) truthfully are not Brahman Country at all.
Just like every good gardener knows their climate zone affects their garden, the climate zone also affects your ranch. So, here is a good list of states where Brahman cattle are really designed to work.
If you live in these states, you should consider using 100% to halfblood Brahmans in your herd:
- New Mexico
If you live in these states, a halfblood to 1/4 Blood Brahman might be a good fit for you:
- Illinois (southern parts)
- Indiana (southern parts)
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
If you live in these states, you should probably not use Brahman cattle unless you have them on a smaller basis and can provide them suitable shelter in the winter. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but in general, these states are too cold for Brahman:
- Illinois (northern)
- Indiana (northern)
- New England states
- North and South Dakota
We realize Brahman may not be for everyone, but for us, located in south Texas, they’re the PERFECT fit! We also believe if you live along the gulf coast of the USA, they’re the PERFECT fit!
