B.R. Cutrer, Inc. is proud to be the first Brahman breeders in the U.S. to incorporate genomic-enhanced EPDs (expected progeny differences) into their herd. Genomic-enhanced EPDs include both the animal’s measurements and their DNA. This unique genetic evaluation was calculated through our strategic partnership with Zoetis, a leader in the animal genetics industry using their HD50K technology.
The first bulls from this progressive genetic evaluation are part of our 1st Annual “Brahman Country” Brahman Sale, held October 21-22 at www.dvauction.com.
What Are the EPDs in Cattle?
EPD stands for expected progeny difference. EPDs:
- Predict what traits an animal will pass on to their offspring
- Use performance records of the animal and its parents – such as birth, weaning, and yearling weight and environment – to determine their value
- Help you compare value on sires, cows, and younger cattle
We’ve taken this valuable tool a step further by including the results of cattle DNA testing into the traditional EPD score. Genomic-enhanced EPDs can help you make accurate predictions about younger bulls that haven’t produced offspring yet. These advanced EPDs can increase your accuracy by over 10%.
We are committed to the continued improvement of the Brahman breed. When we see a new tool, or new opportunity that can better serve our clients, we go the extra mile to make it happen. That’s why we created our cooperator program, our power ratings, our Brahman beef program, and now offering genomic enhanced EPDs. When our customers ask for something, we deliver.
We believe in “Tradition Meeting Modern” in our Brahman cattle program approach. We take “old school” production methods like linebreeding, animal husbandry, and stockmanship, and blended it with modern technology, including genomic-enhanced EPDs. That way, we can ensure you’re incorporating a superior, proven bloodline to your herd.
No matter where you are in the world, the team at B.R. Cutrer, Inc. puts our eight generations of Texas Brahman ranching experience to work for you. We use modern technology, old fashioned hard work, and offer robust customer support to help you select the sires that best suit your needs.
