Anyone can “breed cattle” on paper or by EPDs, but it takes a truly great breeder to be able to successfully evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Brahman cattle. In this hands on workshop, we will discuss the physical conformational traits that are important for Brahman breed character, and basic beef functionality. Taught by Keaton Dodd, BRC director of genetics and former livestock judging team coach at Texas A&M University. Input from Brandon and Rachel Cutrer, both experienced judges and breeders of Brahman cattle.
This workshop will feature:
- Understanding cattle structure
- Understanding the difference between functional traits and non-functional traits
- Learning Brahman breed character differences and terminology
- Distinguishing muscle from fat and other tricky visual indicators
- Learning how to identify hormonally correct visual cues for masculinity and femininity and their effect on long term reproduction and fertility
