As 2024 draws to a close, we at BRC Ranch reflect on the incredible moments that made this year unforgettable. From breaking records to building lasting relationships, this year has been a testament to the power of hard work, innovation, and community. Here are our top 10 highlights from 2024, presented as a countdown:
10. Houston Wins and 100th Anniversary of ABBA – The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is always a high point of the year. This year it was especially fun as the American Brahman Breeders Association celebrated 100 years and we got to be a part of it. From record-breaking sales and ranch visitors to big wins like Reserve International Champion with Amos Moses, Champion Natural Produce with Lupita, and Champion Get of Sire, Houston was a celebration we enjoyed greatly.
9. Customer Appreciation Sale Success Our second Customer Appreciation Sale was a resounding success! Highlights include helping Hollow Oak Farm make their first international sale (their 279 daughter sold to Costa Rica) and seeing all of Mary Katherine Beaty’s wins with her heifer she purchased in the sale. The excitement from this event has us eagerly planning the next sale in May 2025.
8. Annie’s Friendships at Summer Shows Watching Annie’s joy at the Texas Junior Brahman Association and All American events, even as she choses not to show, was a heartwarming reminder of what matters most. Her selflessness in supporting her friends and cheering them on embodies the spirit of BRC.
7. Brandon’s Heifer Development Success Brandon revised our traditional heifer development program this year to shift to a grass-only, low-input management plan. This strategy not only improved efficiency but also helped us get the heifers bred earlier than ever, paving the way for a sustainable future.
6. Johnny Brahman and Six Gun 328 Collect Semen Highlighting our commitment to earlier maturity and fertility in Brahman bulls, Johnny Brahman 299 and Six Gun 328 collected semen this year at the ages of 20 and 18 months respectively. These young bulls embody our mission to push the boundaries of quality and performance in Brahman genetics.
5. Brahman Country Beef and The Ranch Downtown’s Success This was our best year yet for Brahman Country Beef and The Ranch Downtown. Harvesting 75 purebred Brahman steers and providing beef to two local school districts are milestones that bring our farm-to-table mission to life.
4. Mollie’s All American Win Mollie and Margaret joined the ranks of elite back-to-back All American winners, following in the footsteps of Rachel & 180 and Rachel & Whitney from the 1990s. We were equally proud of Mollie for winning her division in showmanship – that was her goal for the year and she achieved it!
3. World Brahman Congress Triumphs The World Brahman Congress was a highlight of the year, not just because of Margaret’s big win, but because BRC genetics dominated across the board. Winning 4 out of 5 group classes and seeing our genetics succeed reaffirms the impact of the BRC breeding program.
2. Angus and Hereford Expansion This year marked the beginning of a new chapter as we expanded into Angus and Hereford cattle. Our goal is to become the premier multi-breed seedstock supplier in the Gulf Coast, providing ranchers with the ideal crossbreeding solutions. This strategic move has been met with excitement and anticipation, and we are eager to see it grow.
- October Sale: A Record-Breaking Event Our Night of Champions Sale in October was nothing short of spectacular. With record-breaking sales, new clients joining the BRC family, and an outpouring of global demand, this event solidified our place as a leader in the cattle industry. We are grateful for the connections made and the memories shared during this extraordinary weekend.
