BRC Beyond the Banners Scholarship Winners

August 10, 2020

B.R. Cutrer, Inc. announces the winners of the 2020 BRC Beyond the Banners Scholarship. This scholarship was created in 2019 and was awarded through our contributions to The Brahman Foundation.

Generosity and giving back is a pillar of BRC, and we set aside a portion of all of our cattle sales to go towards supporting Brahman youth. This year we were able to increase from 2 to 5 scholarships as a result of so many Brahman breeders worldwide putting their confidence in BRC cattle and genetics.

BRC Scholarship Winners – 2020 (L-r: Justin Rossow, Kelsey Spencer, McKenzie Moreland, Savannah Wade, Madison Plaisance

We established the Beyond the Banners Scholarship to encourage great young people to go above and beyond what is expected. The recipients of this year’s scholarship are driven and always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

This year’s recipients have done just that for the Brahman breed. Pictured from left to right: Justin Rossow, Kelsey Spencer, McKenzie Moreland, Savannah Wade, and Madison Plaisance.

Justin Rossow of Danbury, Texas will be attending Texas State Technical College in the fall. Justin is a young man who is always doing more than what is expected. He is always willing to help a fellow exhibitor, and is frequently seen working the ring at jackpots throughout the gulf coast of Texas. He is also an avid tractor restorer and has participated in many ag mechanics competitions throughout high school.

Kelsey Spencer of Bunkie, Louisiana is attending Louisiana Tech this fall. She is majoring in pre-veterinary medicine with the intention of being accepted into the Louisiana State University Veterinary School. This young lady is a member of the AJBA Board of Directors and is just a person that has one of the brightest and kindest personalities you’ll ever meet. She is always seen with a smile, and willing to help and mentor a young member.

McKenzie Moreland of Jonesboro, Texas will be an incoming freshman at Texas A&M University where she will be majoring in Kinesiology. She is also a 10-year AJBA member, and in her early years of showing Brahmans was mentored by Rachel Cutrer about showmanship. We have enjoyed watching much of McKenzie’s success through her years of showing, including wrapping up a tremendous senior year with her Noble daughter raised by Wesley Janik. McKenzie has a heart as big as Texas and we know she will be a success.

Savannah Wade of Wimauma, Florida and will be attending Hillsborough Community College this fall. She is on the agriculture transfer track to the University of Florida to major in Animal Science. Also in 2020, Savannah was the recipient of the extremely prestigious Shawnee Bailey Memorial Award for the AJBA which is the highest award a member can receive at the completion of their junior show career. Savannah is also a shining light of joy and a positive attitude.

Madison Plaisance of Kentwood, Louisiana is an upcoming sophomore Agribusiness major at Louisiana State University. She recently completed a term as president of the American Junior Brahman Association, where she led the organization in hosting one of the most successful “All American” shows in the breed history, all in the middle of a pandemic. She is smart, kind, and business minded with a keen eye for organization and leadership.

We congratulate these young people on their success. To apply for the 2021 BRC Beyond the Banners Scholarship, watch for AJBA and The Brahman Foundation Scholarship applications in spring 2021.
